Tour of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center
For the Barcelona Supercomputing Center tours on 25 October, please go to the corner of Jordi Girona and John Maynard Keynes Streets a few minutes before your scheduled tour, and there will be conference staff with placards to direct you to the tour location (about 100 meters).
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center/Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the national supercomputing center in Spain. The center specializes in high performance computing (HPC) and managers MareNortrum, which is one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. More than 500 R&D experts and professionals work at BSC-CNS, and since its inception in 2005, BSC has been at the forefront in fostering HPC in Spain and Europe as an essential tool for international competitiveness in science and engineering.
We are pleased to offer free tours of this exciting facility to attendees of BigSurv18. The tours are 30 minutes long and include a video presentation of BSC and the supercomputer, and then a walking tour of the facility. Tours will be offered on Thursday, 25 October, at 8:30, 13:00, and 13:30. If you are interested, please sign up when you register for the conference. The number of people on each tour is limited. Once you indicate your interest in visiting the BSC-CNS, you will be contacted to select your preferred tour time.
The BCN-BSC is located at Carrer de Jordi Girona 29-31, 08034 Barcelona. To get there by Metro, use L3, and exit at the Maria Cristina station. If you are taking the Tram, use lines 1, 2 and 3 and exit at the Maria Cristina station. From the station, the BCN-CNS is approximately 11 minutes (1 km) on foot. You can also take a taxi or use a ride-sharing service. Attendees are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the BCN-CNS.

On Friday evening, 26 October, you are invited to join BigSurv18 at Maritim Restaurant for the Conference Dinner at 19:00. Come continue the networking and conversations from the conference while enjoying freshly-prepared local cuisine.
Located on the water with wonderful harbor views, Maritim offers fresh seafood and Spanish dishes. BigSurv18 will have the entire restaurant for our attendees. We will start with a reception featuring snacks, wine and beer at 19:00, and then take our places for dinner at 19:45.
If you will be attending the dinner, please select this when you register. The cost is 57€ for conference attendees. You may also bring one guest for an additional cost of 57€. You’ll be able to select your dinner entrée (beef, fish or vegetarian), as well as indicate any dietary needs.
Maritim is non-smoking, but attendees can smoke outside the restaurant. It is a pleasant walk from UPF and several of the nearby conference hotels, or easily accessible by taxi. Following the dinner, cabs will be available at the restaurant for transportation back to your hotel.
